Of all the waterfront cottages offered in Bayside, this cottage may be the most unchanged of all. To have the opportunity to enjoy a week`s vacation in Bayside the way it used to be should not be missed, and it can be achieved in the Smith Cottage.
This unique and very rustic cottage is right on the ocean with a covered porch overlooking the spectacular views of Penobscot Bay. This is an antique cottage in all aspects. From the nice covered front porch on the street side, the updated kitchen and cozy living room, to the shells and star fish decorations and old pictures on the walls, this cottage is old MAINE.
Upstairs, three bedrooms provide comfortable sleeping for up to three couples. There is a clawfoot tub and new shower stall in between the bedrooms. The largest bedroom looks out over the rising sun on the bay.

No Smoking is permitted anywhere on or inside of any of our rental properties nor are those who may partake in tobacco smoking allowed to occupy any of our properties.
Occupancy may not exceed what is posted for each home. Maximum occupancy could include infants and children.
Boat Rentals and other amenities offered through On the Water in Maine Inc. are not available at all the properties we offer for rent. Boat Rentals through Maine Watercraft Rentals Inc. are offered Sunday morning to Friday after 4pm and include free delivery to the property. Check with an agent to find out what boats are available to rent at this property, or, when you process the booking here online, only the boats available for the property will be listed as available to rent.

This is an excerpt derived from the April 2004 article in Down East Magazine about renting in Bayside. We revised it slightly to ensure every point was considered and highly recommend that everyone who plans to rent in Bayside considers this:
- Before booking a Maine summer rental in Bayside, take a moment to review your expectations. Decide if privacy is a concern, or if lumpy mattresses or steep stairs present problems for you, and say so up front. Do you mind the smell of mothballs on occasion? Are there young children in your party? Children have grown up in Bayside starting at all ages for over 100 years. However, you must understand that not all the cottages were designed with today`s safety standards for children. Learn as much as you can about any cottage you are considering. Is it sunny and bright inside or shady and cool? Maine summer nights can be brisk but they can also be very hot. Is there a thermostat in the house, or is a wood stove the only source of warmth? Are there fans for hot nights? Don’t even think to expect an air conditioner. Renters are typically expected to supply their own towels and bedding; is there anything else you should bring?
- Once you have committed to a rental, remember to stay flexible. Bayside is not a resort with identical rooms and furniture chosen by committee; that is why you are here and not at some famous vacation hotel. Minor inconveniences may well be part of the package, but so be it. Choose wisely and then relax. You will probably remember them as part of the charm.
