| | Aloha Beth,
While pictures of the Onion House and the
Big Island are still clear in my mind I wanted
to drop you a note to say how much we loved
our entire stay. Having been warned of the
stark lava fields we were not in the least
daunted upon landing and they actually
became just another remarkable aspect of
the island. We tried to explore as much as
possible and did get to many different areas
but also discovered that it is indeed a big
island. Using the Big Island Revealed as our
bible together with your helpful notes we
visited quite a few of the beaches (hard to
reach as well as easily accessible) and found
that our favourites were those that provided
the best snorkeling – and the snorkeling was
just amazing. The diving we did added yet
another dimension to the underwater beauty
of the area.
The Onion House was everything we hoped it
would be and a bit! Its seclusion in contrast
to the total openness of the house, and the
possibility of swimming from the master
bedroom to the terrace in the morning
absolutely delighted me. I made peace with
the geckos rather shortly but left the toads to
my daughter. Everything we needed was on
hand – including all manner of beach
equipment. The only thing lacking was more
time there!
We have a small place in Florida and I have
had notes from our guests thanking us for
the use of our home. I understand better
now their meaning. We thank you very much
for sharing your beautiful home and its
fascinating history. This was truly a special
trip for us. While we’ll not be able to return
in the near future, to stay again at the Onion
House and discover more of the Big Island is
certainly something we’ll be saving for.
Mahalo nui loa!

| | Aloha to you Beth!
There are no words to express how truly wonderful it was to stay in the Onion house...It was impressive, memorable, and unforgettable....The ocean and sunset views were magical...The birds that came every morning and everyday were so unique and so delightful to watch...I loved how one particular dragonfly would accompany me as i swam in the pool...The geckos are so cute and were our breakfast, lunch, and dinner guests...Simply being in the grounds uplifted our spirits and soothed our souls...The architecture is so magnificent...I loved all the arts and craftsie details...And thank you wholeheartedly for sharing such a heavenly place and for allowing us to read about its history...We were moved, admire, and applaud your persistence to save the Onion house, for such a place, as it has for us, brought my family closer together...Thanks a million.
Sincerely yours,
Aida Burr |
